A Plasma-shell™ is a hollow gas encapsulating structure. The gas is contained within a hermetic wall generally composed of glass or ceramic. Shell material, gas composition, and pressure are selected based on applications. IST is currently conducting research to optimize Plasma-shells™ for use as light sources, sensors, and switches. IST has over 50 patents relating to Plasma-shells™ and their applications.
IST has developed a proprietary, flexible, high yield process for fabricating Plasma-shells™. IST can fabricate shells to specification.

A Plasma-shell™ (P) is a hollow shell composed of a glass shell (G) encapsulating an ionizable gas (G) |
Capabilities include:
- Controlled size from 400 microns to 10 millimeters
- Any shape including spheres, right circular cylinders, and cubes
- Shell material glass, ceramic, or metal including metal alloys
- Shell materials may be layered layers can be controlled to a few microns
- Our Plasma-shells™ can be filled with various gas mixtures, at pressures ranging from 10 to 500 Torr
IST can provide other valued added functions including:
- Applications of electrodes to shell
- Coating of shells with various materials
- Populating of shells onto various substrates
